Like most people I imagine, I am subscribed to a dizzying amount of news feeds that are delivered to my personal email; so many I have lost count and, so many I pay little attention to it, unless it has to do with data centers.
In May of this year, the Uptime Institute unveiled its Outage Severity Rating (OSR) system, which according to the organization, aims “to help the digital infrastructure and data center community better understand and articulate service outages in the context of how each incident affects the business.”

I recently attended Data Center World 2019 at the Phoenix Convention Center. It was a good show with informative sessions. One in particular stood out, namely “Liquid Immersion Cooling: Three Case Studies Show Compelling Data for Power Savings,” presented by Jack W. Kolar, VP, mission critical products, Modular Solutions Laboratory.
At the recent 2019 Data Center World Conference, held March 19-22, 2019, I attended a lightening session presented by Mike Zarrilli, Jr., executive director of data center solutions and Sharon Ann Thomas, product manager, AHU, Johnson Controls.
The panel discussion featured Carrie Goetz, RCDD, CDCS, CDCP, global director of technology for Paige DataCom Solutions; Enoch Moeller hardware operations site manager for Google; and Kylash Ramesh, management analyst, Division of Facilities Operations & Maintenance for the National Institutes of Health.
