Hurricane Electric has opened its first Hawaiian Point of Presence (PoP) at DRFortress; 3375 Koapaka St., Honolulu, HI, 96819.

The largest data center and cloud services provider operating in Hawaii, DRFortress is also the only carrier-neutral data center in the state. As the most advanced commercial colocation facility in the region, DRFortress is the primary peering point in Hawaii for major wireline and wireless carriers, enterprises, cable companies, and ISPs. The company’s data center houses the densest concentration of IP carriers in Hawaii and the facility plays a vital role as the only commercial Internet Exchange hub in the state. Due to its strategic location within the Oceania region, DRFortress offers connectivity services to clients within its data center, throughout Hawaii and beyond.

The new exchange point will provide customers of DRFortress access to Hurricane Electric’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports. They will also have the opportunity to exchange IP traffic, or “peer,” with Hurricane Electric’s global network while enjoying lower latency and fewer router hops. The company’s premier dual stack network can deliver wirespeed 10GE IPv6 transit on the same port as existing IPv4 transit for seamless data transmission. The new Honolulu PoP will also give customers of DRFrotress the ability to utilize the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) offered by Hurricane Electric, helping them identify the shortest path for reduced network hops and faster traffic delivery.
