Tier 1 Research is reporting that the State of Utah has completed a consolidation from 35 datacenters into two data centers over a period of 18 months, including all phases from planning to project completion. The state also virtualized government servers, reducing the number from 1,894 to 591. The move eliminated 200 IT positions.

In Texas, the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) issued a Notice to Cure in response failures by IBM to complete the consolidation of 27 agencies into two consolidated data centers within the applicable timeframe of the contract.. The notice asserts that IBM is in breach of the data center consolidation project that started in 2006 with a contract value of $863 million. In the Notice to Cure, IBM was warned that it is in danger of losing the $863 million datacenter consolidation contract if the company cannot show improvement in the next 30 days.
